Choose 3mm Foamex for lightweight smaller signs, point-of-sale graphics and mounted display panels. Choose 5mm Foamex for most general signage, exhibition graphics and retail displays. Choose 10mm Foamex when extra rigidity is useful for a larger or more substantial panel.
Thickness is only one part of the specification. The finished dimensions, mounting method, location and expected weather exposure should also influence the choice.
3mm Foamex
3mm is the lightest Foamex option in the Display Wizard range. It is well suited to smaller signs and graphics that will be supported by a wall, frame or other suitable fixing.

small retail signs
mounted information graphics
lightweight exhibition graphics
5mm Foamex
5mm is the most versatile middle-ground option. It provides more rigidity than 3mm without the bulk of 10mm board.
Typical uses include:
general retail signage
exhibition graphics
menu and information boards
directional and wayfinding signs
branded display panels
10mm Foamex
10mm is the thickest option in the standard Display Wizard Foamex range and is useful where additional stiffness is desirable.
Typical uses include:
larger display panels
more substantial wall graphics
signs where a thicker visible edge is preferred
applications where 3mm or 5mm may flex too easily
For very large, long-term or demanding outdoor signs, consider whether an aluminium composite board such as Dibond is more appropriate.
Other factors to consider
Board size: larger panels place more demand on the material and fixings. On the current Display Wizard Foamex product, boards over 1500mm in either width or length are supplied in two pieces to reduce shipping risk.
Fixing method: tapes, screws, stand-offs and other fixings create different loads on the board.
Indoor vs outdoor: Foamex can be used outside for suitable short-term applications, but weather exposure and installation are important.
Single vs double sided: choose double-sided printing only where both faces will actually be seen.

Is 3mm Foamex strong enough for a sign?
For many smaller, properly supported indoor signs and point-of-sale graphics, 3mm Foamex is suitable. Larger panels or applications with less support may benefit from 5mm or 10mm board.
Is 5mm Foamex the standard choice?
5mm is a versatile option for general signage, retail and exhibition graphics because it balances rigidity with manageable weight, but the correct thickness still depends on size and installation.
When should I use 10mm Foamex?
Use 10mm when you want additional rigidity, a thicker edge or a more substantial larger panel. For demanding long-term outdoor applications, consider whether Dibond is more suitable.
